National Guard general hurt in crash

The leader of the Missouri National Guard was hurt in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Cole County.

Missouri Highway Patrol reports show the crash occurred at 4:15 p.m. on Route B and Evergreen Drive.

A motorcycle driven by Levon Cumpton, 51, of Wardsville, was slowing to make a left turn and was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by Mark Coe, 46, of Holts Summit.

Coe had no reported injuries. Cumpton was taken by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of serious injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Maj. Gen. Cumpton came into his position as Adjutant General of the Missouri National Guard in 2019 having served nearly 30 years on active duty in the U.S. Army and full-time National Guard service.
