Callaway County will receive a grant for two domestic violence investigators through the Violence Against Women Act.

The County Commission recently accepted the 75-25 grant, which the Sheriff's Office has since 2011.

Sheriff Clay Chism said the grant will last for two years through the U.S. Department of Justice. The cities of Fulton and Holt Summit contribute to the county's match.

While the domestic violence investigators are employed by the sheriff's office, they also serve both cities when needed.

In total the matching funds are $193,579, he said.

The contract covers 2022 and 2023, Chism said, although the department received it about five months later than expected.

"We've been tentatively approved for five months now," he said. "They just now provided the contract for whatever the delay is."

Chism said the staff will need to do some backtracking to receive the first five months of funding.

The commission approved the contract unanimously. Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann was not in attendance.
