News Tribune to hold four candidate forums

The Jefferson City News Tribune is planning to host four candidate forums for contested state House and state Senate races in the upcoming Aug. 2 primary election.

Each forum, moderated by Managing Editor Gary Castor, will pose questions from the News Tribune staff and community members to the candidates.

Readers can submit questions for candidates via email to [email protected], and we'll ask the candidates to answer them in a future edition of the newspaper or at the forum.

Open forums for state House candidates in contested races are scheduled for July 21. The forum for the District 49 candidates is 6-7 p.m., and the forum for District 59 is 7-8 p.m.

In District 49, Jim Schulte, Shannon Graziano and Steven Myers are vying for the seat currently held by Travis Fitzwater. In District 59, Rudy Veit is facing a challenge from George Bacon.

The News Tribune is working to schedule forums for state Senate candidates in contested races. In District 6, Mike Bernskoetter is facing a challenge from Scott Riedel. In District 10, Travis Fitzwater, Bryan Spencer, Joshua Price, Jeff Porter, Randy Pietzman and Mike Carter are vying for the seat currently held by Jeanie Riddle.

The forums will be open to the public at Jefferson City Hall, 320 E. McCarty St. They will also be livestreamed on newstribune.com and the City of Jefferson YouTube channel.
