Search ongoing for Fulton director of administration

Fulton's search continues for a new captain to steer the ship.

Former Director of Administration Bill Johnson announced his retirement in November after leading the city's day-to-day operations for more than 25 years. His last day was Jan. 7.

Utilities Superintendent Darrell Dunlap has stepped in as interim director of administration while City Council searches for a permanent candidate.

Mayor Lowe Cannell said the city received about 30 applications for the position and phone interviews have been scheduled.

He said the goal is to conduct phone interviews during the next week before selecting candidates for in-person interviews.

"We have eight council members and lots of meetings that all have to be coordinated, so it may take a little longer," Cannell said. "But we're hoping to get through the phone interview process in the next week or so."

He's hopeful the council can conduct in-person interviews the following week, but that'll depend on the availability of council members and the candidates.

Cannell said City Council is leading the search with the help of the city attorney.

"We're taking a group approach and hopefully we'll have a candidate that we can all say, 'This is who we want to lead Fulton,'" he said. "That's the goal."
