Capital City cruised.

The Cavaliers won both their duals by 18 points or more during triangular wrestling action Wednesday at Capital City High School.

Capital City started its night with a 63-18 win against the Southern Boone Eagles, then beat the Fulton Hornets 45-27 to close the triangular.

Capital City’s girls lost 30-24 to Southern Boone and 42-12 to Fulton.

“They’re starting to do moves and series like we’ve been practicing,” Capital City coach Mitch Werdehausen said. “They’re being more aggressive, like we’ve been teaching, a little less defensive. I’m proud of their effort today.”

Eight Cavaliers went 2-0 during the triangular.

Demarkus Lyddon-Allen opened the dual with Southern Boone at 113 pounds, pinning Zach Poole in 1:30, then closed the dual against Fulton with a 6-4 sudden-victory decision. Lyddon-Allen held off Makoa Castillo’s final attack for more than five seconds to force overtime, then took Castillo to the mat with 34 seconds left in the one-minute period to take the win.

“He stepped in for one of our seniors and did a great job,” Werdehausen said. “… He’s only a freshman and we’re looking for good things from him in the future.”

“Ethyn Otto wrestled one of his best matches of the year,” Werdehausen said. “He’s really coming along. He’s a senior, he knows what he’s got to do.”

Jabari Hubbard took a forfeit against Southern Boone and needed only 36 seconds to pin Fulton’s Aaron Corey for two wins at 170 pounds.

Landon McNeil spent a combined 67 seconds on the mat to earn two pins at 182 pounds. McNeil shoved Southern Boone’s Aiden McDaniel’s shoulders to the mat in 57 seconds, then came back with a 10-second pin of the Hornets’ Colin Humphrey.

“Landon is only a sophomore, he’s stepping in for us,” Werdehausen said. “He did a great job for us tonight.”

Hurley Jacobs added two wins for Capital City at 220 pounds. Jacobs pinned Southern Boone’s Haden Bilbro in 42 seconds, then worked to a sudden-victory 3-1 decision against Josh Dunmire, taking Dunmire to the mat at the 18-second mark of the overtime period.

“Hurley and Josh (Dunmire) have wrestled a few times before,” Werdehausen said. “… They always have close matches.”
