Girls Basketball: Rolla 47, California 43

CALIFORNIA -- The California Lady Pintos’ comeback bid fell just short Tuesday night, as the Rolla Lady Bulldogs held on for a 47-43 victory in a state-ranked matchup.

The Lady Bulldogs held a 41-30 lead with 5:40 left, but the Lady Pintos came storming back to have a chance to tie it as the clock winded down.

Lauren Friedrich got a clean look from 3 at the top of the key with four seconds left trailing 46-43, but her shot attempt went halfway down before spinning out and allowing Kori Alcorn to ice the game with a free throw on the other end.

Rolla held a 12-10 lead after one, a 22-19 advantage at halftime and a 35-27 lead heading to the fourth.

Class 4 No. 7 California (6-3) was led by Friedrich’s 11 points and Addi Carr joined her in double figures with 10.

Rolla (6-2), who is ranked sixth in Class 5, had three players finished with double-digit point totals. Alcorn had a game-high 17, Willow Gideon added 14 and Resa Martin chipped in 11 points.

The Lady Pintos will be off until their game at 12:30 p.m. next Friday against Canton in the MRMC Shootout at Moberly Area Community College.
