Holiday Mart JC will be virtual this year

Holiday Mart JC will be virtual this year.

Grab your favorite holiday beverage and shop from local vendors, in the privacy of your own home.

The event will be noon-8 p.m. Nov. 4, on Facebook and Instagram.

Follow along at facebook.com/holidaymartjc or instagram.com/ holidaymartjc.

The event will feature Mid-Missouri small businesses.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Red Slipper Warrior Project.

The project supports women fighting cancer by providing them with red, sequined slippers to remind them they are beautiful, and helps them equip a "go bag." The bag is filled with items to help through the treatment process - a book, iPad, music, etc.

Nursing staffs at chemo clinics are provided 'blingy' Red Slipper Warrior Project lapel pins to attach to identification badges. The pins reflect the team concept the project promotes, according to redslipperwarrior.com.

What makes this program different, according to the website, is other support programs provide "distractions" from the fight against cancer, while the project supports the patient fighting the disease.

"The Red Slipper Warrior Project is focused on creating warriors all over the world, that not only are better fighters but also constantly reminded, they are not defined by cancer," the site says. "They're still beautiful and bonded in creating a support system for each other."

Organizers canceled Holiday Mart JC in 2020.

Before that (during its first three years), it had raised thousands of dollars for local charities, and grew steadily. It supports different charities each year.

In 2019, it raised about $12,700 for Samaritan Center and HALO Foundation.

Proceeds are raised through ticket sales, application fees paid by vendors, patrons and corporate donations, and sales of raffle tickets.
