A Jefferson City woman pleaded guilty to an amended charge in connection with stealing from a state office in the Truman State Office Building on West High Street in July 2019.
During a hearing before Cole County Associate Circuit Judge Brian Stumpe, Symone Porter, 21, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor stealing. She had been charged with one count of felony stealing. For her plea, Porter was placed on two years unsupervised probation. If she fails to meet the conditions of her probation, she faces 30 days in the Cole County Jail.
Court documents show authorities found Porter went into several rooms of the Tax Assistance Office for several days after business hours. Approximately $1,800 was reported missing out of the office safe and video surveillance showed Porter gaining access to the safe, the money box in the safe and numerous desk drawers near the safe.
During an interview with investigators, Porter confessed to stealing the money and told how she did it.
