The Capital City Lady Cavaliers came up one win short of the school's first Final Four appearance in any sport, falling 5-1 in girls tennis dual competition to Ladue in the Class 2 quarterfinals Tuesday at Capital City High School.
Manvee Vuppala and Dahlia Penserum won the Lady Cavaliers lone match, claiming an 8-4 win in doubles play.
Sarah Wilde and Abby Gooch lost 4-8 in doubles, while Carly Carron and Ella Pea lost 2-8.
Ladue clinched its state semifinal berth with three wins in singles play. Falling in singles for the Lady Cavaliers' were Wilde (0-6, 0-6), Gooch (0-6, 0-6) and Pea (1-6, 0-6).
Matches in progress at the time Ladue clinched were Carron (4-6, 2-5), Vuppala (3-6, 1-4) and Penserum (4-6, 1-1).
Capital City ends its season with a 15-6 record in dual competition.
