An annual event that seeks to benefit Lighthouse Preparatory Academy is slated for this weekend.

The annual Light the Night 5K Fun Run/Walk will be at 7 p.m. Friday. As in past years, the race will start and end on the greenway trail on West Edgewood, across from Las Trojas.

Because of public health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is offering an in-person and a virtual option for participating. Entry is $25 for either the run or walk and tickets can be purchased at lpa.networkforgood.com/events/26772-light-the-night-5k-run-walk-2021.

The event is always held after dark so participants can wear necklaces and bracelets made from glow sticks while they run or walk the route.

In-person registration starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Only those who registered by Feb. 26 are guaranteed a T-shirt.
