Sunday's JC Triathlon: The Great Escape will take athletes from the pool at Ellis-Porter Riverside Park, down rural roads and to outside the walls of the historic Missouri State Penitentiary, all while raising money to support healthy living in the community.
The morning begins with registration 5:30-6:30 a.m. at the pool house, 320 Ellis Porter Drive. The swimming portion of the race starts at 7 a.m. with a 400-meter snake swim in the 50-meter pool.
Once out of the water, athletes will embark on a 12-mile bike ride on rural roads to the new Missouri state prison and back to the pool. Participants then take off on a 3.2-mile run to MSP before crossing the finish line at Riverside.
Super Sprint participants will do shortened versions of the courses. Duathlon (12-mile bike ride and 3.2-mile run) and double triathlon (Super Sprint course followed by main triathlon course) events are also available as are options for relay teams.

Registration costs $55-$90 depending on event selection, and awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in each event and each age group - 14-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, and 65 and older. Award presentation is typically 10-10:30 a.m. back at the pool.
In its first four years, the Great Escape event, which is presented by CJC Solutions, has raised more than $12,000 to support programs through the local YMCA and Jefferson City Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
