Your Opinion: Police budget cuts

Dear Editor:

First, it was Seattle making budget cuts to its police department. Now Kansas City is cutting the police budget by $44 million to be used, as Mayor Quinton Lucas said, to combat violent crime. What a crock. Go figure: He is a Democrat who wants to destroy the integrity of the police department. But he has graciously given the department $3 million to start a new class for 2021. When people who want to join the police force find out about this they will probably not want to join knowing that they are being disrespected and have no backing by the same people who voted for this decision. This might make more officers leave the force knowing they don't have the backing of the administration. And there probably will be less promotion due to not having the money to give raises to the officers who put their lives on the line every day to make the city safe.

Lucas also said we want our community to be safe and have a positive relationship with law enforcement. What a crock. By doing what he is doing he is bringing morale down because Lucas and the council don't see the real issue. They are doing this because of pressure from special-interest groups, such as the Urban League of Kansas City.

This Democrat is seeking vengeance against the department that tries to keep the city safe. God help the law-abiding citizens of Kansas City. Also, there are so far 20 states defunding police budgets or have already and 18 of those 20 states are run by Democrats. That's not surprising to me.
