Police ID man in wheelchair killed by hit-and-run driver

CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - St. Louis County police have identified a man in a wheelchair who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver last week.

The crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. Friday in north St. Louis County, when a vehicle hit a man now identified as 69-year-old Melvin Steward, of St. Louis, as he tried to cross Halls Ferry Road in a motorized wheelchair. The vehicle fled the scene and no arrests have been made, police said.

Steward was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
