Your Opinion: Why hasn't Cole County protected its residents?

Dear Editor:

I wonder how the elected officials in Cole County feel about their decision(s) to not institute measures to protect the residents. I can only imagine the elected officials in Boone County are glad they took the actions they did.

Boone County has a population of 177,651, with 14,540 total COVID-19 cases, and 54 total deaths. Cole County has a population of 76,723 with 7,462 total COVID-19 cases and 90 total deaths. Boone County has a population that's 2.3 times larger than Cole County with 36 fewer COVID-19 deaths. That leads me to believe that the courage shown by the Boone County elected officials prevented their COVID-19 deaths from being a total of 124 instead of 54.

Just think if this same courage was taken by our state and federal elected officials. (These figures were found in the Jan. 16 News Tribune.)
