EL PASO, Texas - UTEP junior defensive back Dennis Barnes was named to the Conference USA all-conference team as an honorable mention, the league announced Tuesday.
Barnes (Jefferson City High School) ranked third on the Miners’ defense with 54 total tackles in 12 games this season, including 37 solo stops. He also had 4.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, two pass breakups and a quarterback hit.
He also played on special teams, returning 22 kickoffs for 384 total yards.
In two seasons at UTEP, Barnes has 76 tackles with 6.5 tackles for loss, adding a forced fumble and a fumble recovery last season.
UTEP (7-5) will play Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 18. The game kicks off at 1:15 p.m. CST in Albuquerque, N.M., and will be broadcast on ESPN.
