A Missouri Department of Corrections officer has been arrested and charged for attempting to smuggle drugs into a Fulton facility.
Randi Duvall, 35, of Auxvasse, was arrested Oct. 28 after an investigation by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri Department of Corrections and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, according to a Tuesday news release from the Sheriff's Office.
Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wilson charged Duvall, who was employed as a corrections officer at the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center at the time of her arrest, with the class E felony offense of acceding to corruption.
DOC intercepted a series of phone calls and emails "indicating that an unknown substance, possibly a form of synthetic cannabinoids, was going to be smuggled into the Fulton Reception and Diagnostics Center," according to arrest documents.
An intelligence analyst investigator told local authorities the "substance" had likely been shipped from Hannibal to Duvall's P.O. box in Auxvasse. The U.S. Postal Service tracke the package, which arrived Oct. 26.
A Callaway County deputy then met with Duvall, explaining the investigation.
"Duvall voluntarily provided me with two plastic bottles filled with a faint yellow liquid, along with an opened package that she claimed the bottles were originally shipped to her in," a probable cause statement submitted by reporting officer Blake Atkins reads.
Duvall admitted to agreeing to smuggle the substance into FRDC for $500, according to the statement. Duvall also admitted to smuggling items on three other occasions over the course of a month - smokeless tobacco, smoking tobacco and Zen Tobacco Products - receiving between $800-$1,000 in total.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Duvall has an arraignment scheduled at 9 a.m. Friday, according to online court records.
