A Jefferson City man faces multiple charges after fleeing from police early Monday morning.

George Biggs, 48, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers spotted Biggs in the alleyway beside Save a Lot in the 300 block of Benton Street working on a bike, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

Police learned Biggs was wanted in connection with a robbery investigation, and he failed to stop after officers ordered him to do so. Officers pursued Biggs for about a block as he allegedly attempted to flee on his bike. He then dropped the bike and began to run on foot, going behind houses on Benton Street.

He eventually fell down a retaining wall and was taken into custody.

As he ran, Biggs dropped a backpack; when officers searched it, they reportedly found a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen out of Callaway County. They also found methamphetamine, a scale and drug paraphernalia.
