Wilde advances in Class 2 singles for the Jays

LEE'S SUMMIT - Jefferson City sophomore Josh Wilde won his sectional singles match Monday to qualify for the Class 2 state tournament.

Wilde defeated Lebanon's Bryson Crowell 6-1, 6-2 to become the first Jay to qualify for the individual state tournament since 2015.

Wilde was the Class 2 District 9 singles runner-up finisher, while Crowell won the District 10 singles title.

Lee's Summit West's Hogan Stoker, the District 9 singles champion, won 6-0, 6-0 against Waynesville's Tyler Gayman in Monday's other Class 2 Sectional 5 singles matchup to advance to state.

Wilde, who has a 20-7 record in singles play this season, will compete Friday, May 24, in the Class 2 singles state tournament at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
