EUGENE - Down to their final three outs, the Eugene Eagles rallied to score five runs in the top of the seventh inning Monday, upsetting the fifth-ranked Vienna Eagles 7-6 in the semifinals of the Class 2 District 9 Tournament.
The Eagles drew four consecutive walks to start the seventh. Tyler Renn then hit a two-run double, giving Eugene a 5-4 lead.
Later in the inning, Gavin Magers scored on a sacrifice fly and Ethan Adrian added an RBI double to extend the lead to 7-4.
In the bottom half of the inning, Vienna plated a run on an error and then Trenton Rowden hit a two-out single, scoring Brenden Crowe to pull the Eagles within one run at 7-6.
With the tying and winning runs at second and first base, Adrian was able to get a strikeout to end the game for Eugene.
Renn was the winning pitcher for the Eagles. In 6 innings, he struck out nine batters and walked two, giving up five runs (two earned) on seven hits. Adrian closed the seventh to earn the save.
Renn went 2-for-3 with a single and a double for the Eagles, while Billy Parr added a pair of singles.
Logan Agan pitched into the seventh inning for Vienna, striking out 11 batters in six-plus innings for the loss. He gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits and walked three.
Agan also went 3-for-4 at the plate with two singles and a double. Rowden and Levi Messersmith each had two singles for the Eagles.
Vienna, the No. 2 seed in the district, ends the season with an 18-8 record.
Eugene (11-9), the No. 3 seed, will host top-seeded and sixth-ranked Russellville (18-9) for the district championship at 5 p.m. today.
