College Baseball: Helsel improves to 7-5

O'FALLON, Ill. - Drury freshman Kaden Helsel pitched 2 innings of relief last Friday, helping the Panthers to a 5-4 win against McKendree.

Helsel (South Callaway High School) gave up two runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. However, he earned the win when Drury scored three runs in the top of the eighth to take the lead for good.

In 17 pitching appearances this season, Helsel has a 7-5 record with two saves. He has a 4.92 ERA in 56 innings with 51 strikeouts and 32 walks.

On Wednesday, Helsel was named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference second team as a utility player. At the plate this season, he is batting .283 (17-for-60) with 14 RBI and 14 runs scored.

Drury (29-22), the No. 5 seed in the GLVC Tournament, lost 11-2 to Illinois-Springfield in Ozark on Thursday and will play Lewis at 12:30 p.m. today in an elimination game.
