Renegades split DH with Ozark Generals

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - It was a doubleheader of pitchers' duels Sunday night at Meador Park between the Jefferson City Renegades and the Ozark Generals.

Tyson Campbell struck out 11 batters in a complete-game effort, leading Ozark to a 3-0 win in Game 1.

Deejay Seelbach answered for Jefferson City, pitching a three-hitter in Game 2 to lead the Renegades to a 2-0 victory for a split in the two seven-inning games.

The Renegades were limited to three hits in Game 1. Paul Haupt had the team's first hit with a one-out single in the top of the fourth inning.

Jefferson City's other hits were a leadoff single in the fifth by Sam Creed and a leadoff single in the seventh by Lincoln Orellana.

Ozark hit a pair of solo home runs off Jefferson City pitcher Peyton Leeper. Bradley Gill homered in the third to give the Generals a 1-0 lead, while Joey Castelli added a solo shot in the sixth for the game's final run.

In six innings, Leeper gave up three runs on eight hits and did not allow a walk. He finished with four strikeouts.

The two teams combined for just eight hits in Game 2, and neither team scored in the first five innings.

In the sixth, Dede Cole hit a one-out single and Leeper drew a walk to put runners on first and second base with one out. Haupt singled, scoring Cole to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead.

Later in the inning, Tommy Reuther hit a two-out single, scoring Leeper to give Jefferson City a two-run cushion.

That was enough support for Seelbach, who dominated on the mound. In seven innings, he struck out five batters and faced just three batters over the minimum, throwing only 77 pitches.

Cole went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Austin Fennewald also singled for the Renegades.

Ozark (16-16, 16-14 MINK League) holds a two-game lead in the South Division.

Jefferson City (16-18, 12-18 MINK League) returns home to host the Nevada Griffons at 7 p.m. today at Vivion Field.
