LU-MRRL Lecture Series kicks off Monday

A new lecture series will begin Monday, starting with a program on the female pirates of the 17th century.

The LU-MRRL Lecture Series is a partnership between the Missouri River Regional Library and Lincoln University where a university faculty member will visit the library each month to discuss a topic of that member’s research interest.

The first lecture will be at 7 p.m. Monday by Katrina Everhart, who will highlight eight women who worked the seas during the golden age of pirates. Those highlighted will include Anne Bonny, who was Calico Jack’s Helmswoman; Mary Read; Lady Mary Killigrew; the female Sea Dogs of Queen Elizabeth I; and Sayyida al-Hurra, a Moroccan queen and pirate. Everhart is the extended studies coordinator for the division of online and extended studies at Lincoln University.

All programs are open to the public and held in the art gallery of the library, located at 214 Adams St. in Jefferson City.
