Arrest incident clarified

Samuel J. Weyland, 20, of New Bloomfield, has not been charged with any first-degree charges of tampering with a motor vehicle; however, charges are being reviewed by prosecuting attorneys in two counties, authorities said Wednesday.

Prosecuting attorneys are the only authorities that can bring charges; police make arrests, but do not charge suspects.

Weyland was arrested Monday driving a vehicle reported stolen from a locked lot in Pulaski County. That county put out an all-points bulletin and Weyland, along with a Mokane man, were arrested with the vehicle on Monday evening. A press release issued on the Fulton Police Department Facebook page was later deleted, according to Maj. Roger Rice, who said FPD still has the vehicle.

The incident remains under investigation.
