JOPLIN, Mo. - Kaden Helsel and Zach Parish matched each other inning by inning for six frames Tuesday night.
Both put up a zeros in the first two innings. Both gave up a run in the third. The score remained tied until Joplin took advantage of Jefferson City's mistakes in the seventh, leading to three runs and ultimately a 5-1 victory for the Outlaws against the Renegades.
A hit by pitch and three straight walks broke the 1-all tie and a Zack Ehlen double plated two more runs for a 4-1 lead.
A double by Colton Marion added a run for Joplin in the eighth.
The loss went to Tommy Wahl, who walked three and struck out two while allowing three runs and a hit in two-thirds of an inning.
Helsel struck out four and walked a pair while surrendering just one run and two hits in six innings.
Parish gave up a run on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Dante Richardson pitched two perfect innings of relief, striking out one.
Jefferson City took advantage of a leadoff walk in the third to score the game's first run. Kaelen Dowling walked on five pitches, went to second on a fielder's choice and went all the way home on a passed ball.
But Joplin tied it in the bottom half as Alec Capshaw led off with a walk and ended up scoring.
Quincy Jones, Mike Million and Tyler Bracht each had a hit for Jefferson City.
The loss for the Renegades drops them to 9-9 overall, 6-9 in MINK League play.
The Renegades will continue their three-game road trip Thursday against the Chillicothe Mudcats. Game time is 7 p.m.
