Nonprofit, patients share a chair

Jefferson City-area breast cancer patients who have undergone mastectomies now have the opportunity for additional help during their healing process.

Power recliners.

Homemaker Health Care works with local hospitals, physical therapists, social workers and other health care providers to identify patients who temporarily need medical equipment in their own homes.

Through The Caring Chair by Homemaker Health Care, breast cancer patients now can receive a power recliner that lifts the person from a sitting to a standing position. The chair is necessary because the surgery makes use of arms difficult for the first few weeks following the event.

Homemaker Health Care loans equipment such as hospital beds, bedside toilets, wheelchairs and shower benches to clients at no cost. Currently, the organization has one chair to serve Cole County. The chairs cost $1,200-$1,500.

Anyone in need of equipment, who wishes to nominate a client, or who wishes to donate to The Caring Chair is encouraged to contact the organization at 573-635-6603.
