For Fatima baseball coach Scott Kilgore, Friday night's Jamboree at Vivion Field went about as expected for the team's first game action of the season.

"I was pretty pleased. I thought we competed pretty well every outing tonight, and that's kind of about," Kilgore said. "Just kind of getting out and busting the cobwebs out."

The Comets began the night with a 1-0 loss to Jefferson City, then had a 2-0 defeat against Blair Oaks before battling Helias to a 5-all tie in the three-inning contests.

One area Kilgore emphasized to the players was their approaches at the late. Fatima combined for seven hits, including a one-hit performance against the Falcons.

The Comets found themselves looking at called third strikes Friday.

"In order to be good hitters and do the things that we want to do as far as being successful this season, that's going to have to improve," Kilgore said. " The arms are usually ahead of your bats."

That held true Friday as Logan Bexten only allowed one run - a solo home run - in three innings against Jefferson City.

Josef Keilholz pitched two innings of scoreless baseball against Blair Oaks and none of the five runs allowed against Helias were earned.

"My arms were a little short tonight," Kilgore said. " I thought the guys who pitched tonight did well. I thought they competed, we put them into some pressure situations and they competed."

Gage Bax pitched the first two innings against the Crusaders, allowing two unearned runs. Jacob Crede pitched the third inning, striking out two.

Fatima gets its season started March 18 as it faces Jefferson City and Borgia at Borgia.
