Milk, bread prices increase; lunch costs unchanged for California school year

Milk and bread costs went up for the 2017-18 school year at California. Only one bid was received for each.

Prairie Farms will provide milk at 26-cents each, up a penny from last school year.

Ellis Bakery will provide sliced bread at $1.75 each, up from $1.30, and buns at 22-cents, up from 17-cents.

Lunch prices, however, have not changed.

Breakfast is $1.35. Elementary lunch is $1.90 and middle school/high school lunches are $2.20.

The eligibility qualifications for families seeking free and reduced meals have increased an average of $350-per-family-per-year.

The Moniteau R-1 district averages about 50 percent of students qualifying for the free and reduced meals.

In other business, the board:

Praised the first-year of one-to-one devices at the high school as a success.

Affirmed its goals and mission statement.

Learned the district has hired five first-year teachers plus another nine new to the district.

Noted that summer building maintenance has made better progress than any previous years, including the installation of an additional roadway at the high school campus.
