Post 5 set for AAA State Tournament

The Post 5 Juniors added a state baseball championship for Jefferson City last Saturday. The Seniors hope they can make it a sweep for Post 5 this week in Sedalia.

Jefferson City opens play in the AAA State Tournament at 5 p.m. today against the Rod's Sports A's at Liberty Park Stadium.

The Rod's A's, a team out of Blue Springs, won Zone 2-A to advance to state. Post 5 is coming off a Zone 1 Tournament title, outscoring its opponents 31-1.

Post 5 defeated host Washington Post 218 13-1 in seven innings last Saturday in the championship game.

Festus, the Zone 4 champion, will face Zone 2-B champion Lee's Summit at 8 p.m. today.

The winners of those two games will play at 1 p.m. Friday with the winner advancing to the championship game, which is at 1 p.m. Saturday. The tournament is double-elimination.

Jefferson City last won the AAA State Tournament in 2014.
