NEW HAVEN, Mo. - The Jefferson City Post 5 Juniors already had a spot in next week's state tournament, but they put an exclamation point on the Zone Tournament on Saturday.
Jefferson City plated 11 runs in the first inning on its way to a 14-4 victory in six innings against St. Charles Post 312 to win the Zone Tournament championship.
Both teams advance to play in next week's state tournament in Independence.
Wyatt Luebbert and Parker Bax each drove in three runs to lead Post 5. Gavin Bernskoetter recorded three of Jefferson City's 16 hits.
Bax pitched three innings, striking out four. Bryce Bond went two innings on the mound, finishing with three strikeouts.
St. Charles scored three runs in the third and one in the fourth. Jefferson City took a 12-3 lead after three and scored twice in the sixth to end the game by run-rule.
