Mid-Mo Ambulance board updated on base

Work in progress on the new California Mid-Mo Ambulance base was discussed by the Board of Directors at its Jan. 12 meeting at the district office in Tipton.

According to Administrator Lee Kempf, most of the concrete has been poured. To strengthen it to accommodate the weight of the ambulances, the driveway is 6 inches thick, six-bag concrete, with fiber and heavier than usual re-bar. It is also heated to allow the drive to be clear for emergency vehicle traffic. More work needs to be done on the inside floors before they are ready for the base to open.

Plans are to move into the base in February. "It may be Feb. 28, but it will be in February," Kempf said.

An updated policy for reimbursement of tuition for employees wishing to continue their education in an approved paramedic program was presented by Kempf. The new policy does not set a specific tuition amount, where the old one set an amount of $4,000. The reimbursement period will be three years, replacing the old two-year reimbursement period. Following the addition of a few words to clarify the policy, the board approved it.

In other business, the December treasurer's report balance on hand was $430,281.08. Run statistics for October were: Tipton - 67 calls with 35 transports; California - 80 calls, 50 transports; and Versailles - 187 calls, 126 transports. Districtwide, there were 334 calls with 211 transports for a transport rate on patient contact calls of 73.8 percent.

The next regular meeting is set for Feb. 8 at the Tipton district office.
