Boys Basketball: Jays hold off Webb City

JOPLIN - The Jefferson City Jays used fourth-quarter runs to defeat the Webb City Cardinals 81-71 on Friday in the consolation semifinals of the Kaminsky Classic.

The win ended a four-game losing streak for the Jays.

Jefferson City led 17-13 after the first quarter, 35-29 at halftime and extended its lead to 10 in the third quarter.

Webb City managed to cut the Jays' lead to 53-49 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Jays outscored the Cardinals 16-9 in the first few minutes of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 11.

The Cardinals got within three before the Jays closed the game on an 11-4 run, including making all seven of their free throw attempts.

Kamari Balton scored 19 points to lead Jefferson City. Garrett Parker chipped in with 15 points while Hudson Nilges made three 3-pointers on his way to 12 points. DaMani Jarrett and Ben Folz scored 11 and 10, respectively.

The game's top scorer was Trey Gibson of Webb City (3-4) with 22 points.

Jefferson City (5-6) will play William Chrisman at 12:30 p.m. today in the fifth-place game.
