Ellie Rockers of Helias bumps the ball during Thursday night's volleyball match against Blair Oaks at Rackers Fieldhouse.

Helias' balanced attack was too much for the previously unbeaten Blair Oaks Lady Falcons on Thursday.

Six Lady Crusaders recorded at least two kills in a 25-13, 25-9 volleyball win at Rackers Fieldhouse.

The loss was the first of the season for Blair Oaks.

"It was a very unusual game for us," Blair Oaks coach Joy Northweather said.

The Lady Falcons led 5-4 in the first set but a 6-0 run and a 5-0 run allowed Helias to pull away.

In the second set, Blair Oaks only trailed 6-5 early but an 8-0 Lady Crusader run in the middle of the set gave them a comfortable lead.

Up 11-10 in the first set, Ellie Rockers recorded back-to-back kills to start a 6-0 run.

Blair Oaks ended it with a Lizzy Holstein kill before Korie Otto answered with a kill for Helias. It was the start of an 8-2 run for Helias to close out the first set.

"I thought we came out with good energy and we had some mistakes here and there, but we didn't really let it bother us," Helias coach Dave Harris said.

"We've been working on just really focusing on the next play."

Lexy Lamb set up Rockers for a kill hit in the back corner to make it 21-13.

Three points later, Abby Shepard assisted Rockers for another kill. Rockers led Helias with seven kills.

Callie Henson added four kills. Hannah Borchelt, Erin Wyrick and Regan Bruns each had three kills.

"Our serve-receive was pretty good," Harris said. "When our serve-receive is good we've got all three attackers available. All of them are pretty good."

Lamb and Shepard each had 10 assists for Helias.

Helias scored the first four points of the second set, including an ace for Lamp who found the back right corner.

Blair Oaks fought back, scoring the next four.

Allison Maxwell got it started with a kill and Holstein hit it just in front of the back line for a kill to get within one. Helias hit it into the net to tie it up at 4.

Helias took the lead for good on the next point.

The Lady Crusaders got their lead to 12-7 before rolling off eight straight.

Rockers served a ball off the fingertips of a Blair Oaks player for a 14-7 lead.

Back-to-back attack errors for Blair Oaks later made it 20-7 Helias.

"You cut our unforced mistakes, mistakes we haven't made all year long," Northweather said. "I don't know if it's the atmosphere here or what, but that was a good team."

Rackers then got a kill for Blair Oaks. Rackers, Holstein and Maxwell each had four kills for Blair Oaks.

The Lady Crusaders finished off the match with five of the final six points.

Helias (26-2-2) plays Monday at Hermann.

Blair Oaks (15-1) will compete Saturday in the Eldon Tournament.

The Lady Falcons are in Pool A with Boonville and Fulton. Eldon, Metro Academy and Southern Boone are in Pool B.

"Put this match behind us and shoot for betting things," Northweather said. "I think all of us would just like to forget about this one."

Helias won Thursday's JV match 23-25, 25-16, 25-16.

Riley Bernskoetter led Helias with 11 kills and 11 assists.

Blair Oaks won the freshman match 25-20, 25-17.

Tessa Wilson had six kills for Helias.
