Helias sweeps team honors at Capital City Challenge

The Helias Crusaders and Lady Crusaders captured Class 3 team honors Saturday in the Capital City Cross Country Challenge at the Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City.

The Crusaders finished with 49 points to top 11 other teams. Mexico was second with 88, while Westminster Christian Academy was third with 117.

Jack Crull, a freshman, was the individual champion for the Crusaders. He finished in 16:42.68, nearly nine seconds ahead of runner-up Alex Dukes from Mexico.

Riley Scott and Brian Kirchoff were seventh and eighth, respectively, for Helias. Nathan Wieberg was 11th, while Jack Hentges took 22nd. Colby Kroll was 34th and Jenson Starr was 36th for the Crusaders.

On the girls side, Helias totaled 38 points to top 11 other teams. Carl Junction was second with 72, while MICDS was third with 104.

Kayla Yanskey paced the Lady Crusaders, taking second in 20:15.33. Kaitlynn Franks of Carl Junction was the winner in 20:06.41.

Abby Hake and Emma Veltrop were third and fourth, respectively, for the Lady Crusaders. Alicia Engelbrecht was 16th, one spot better than teammate Lanie Hentges. Morgan Yanskey, Claire McDonald and Elly Bowles were 20th-22nd for Helias.

Blair Oaks at Challenge

The Blair Oaks Falcons and Lady Falcons were both fifth Saturday in the Class 3 division of the Capital City Cross Country Challenge at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

The Falcons totaled 159 points in the 12-team event.

Cole Brenneke paced the Falcons, finishing 10th in 17:57.84.

Adam McCauley was 14th for Blair Oaks, while Bo Thomas and Ben Forck were 38th and 39th, respectively. London Gaydos was 59th, while Michael Kempker was 77th and Chris Parmley was 82nd.

On the girls side, the Lady Falcons finished with 160 points in the 12-team event.

Taylor Scott was 19th in 21:28.36 to lead the Lady Falcons.

Emily Yaeger was 24th, while Grace Scott finished 30th for Blair Oaks. Sarah Wolken was 52nd, while Kasey Kerperin was 64th and Zoe Baker finished 85th.

Fatima sweeps crowns

The Fatima Lady Comets were first while the Comets took second Saturday in the Class 2 division in the Capital City Cross Country Challenge at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

The Fatima girls totaled 20 points to top seven other teams. Bowling Green was second with 73, with Whitfield third with 91.

The Lady Comets had six runners finish in the top 15 individuals, led by champion Brianna Haller. She won with a time of 19:47.17.

Kendall Haller was third, while Katelyn Vanderfeltz and Alexis Fischer were fifth and sixth, respectively. Kailey Woody was ninth, with Hannah Kloeppel took 15th. Lindsie Conley was 26th and Katie Fechtel was 31st.

On the boys side, Fatima finished with 84 points. Plato was first with 80, while Russellville took third with 129 in the 14-team event.

Logan Borland finished second in 17:41.22 to lead the Comets.

Alex Krieg was fifth for Fatima, while Dalton Luebbert finished 17th. Kagan Froning was 25th, followed by Jordan Kremer in 35th, Zachary Even in 37th and Caleb Laughlin in 47th.

Simon Gelber of Whitfield took individual honors in 16:53.70.

Russellville boys take third

The Russellville Indians finished third Saturday in the Class 2 division of the Capital City Cross Country Challenge at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

The Indians finished with 129 points to finish behind Plato (80) and Fatima (84) in the 14-team field.

Anthony Bertucci was sixth in 17:55.61 to lead the Indians. Austin Roe was 13th, while Harrison Frank was 30th and Beau Bryant was 36th. Austin Randolph was 46th and Kyle Brautigam was 74th for the Indians.

On the girls side, Russellville had three individuals participate Saturday.

Chyan Wilkes was 43rd in 25:10.33 to lead the Lady Indians. Mackenzie Schwartz was 58th, while Addie Kirchner was 61st.

California takes fifth

The California Pintos finished fifth Saturday in the Class 2 division of the Capital City Cross Country Challenge at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

Calfiornia totaled 157 points.

Trevor Porter paced California, taking 14th in 18:18.32. Hunter Carpenter was 23rd, while Jordan Bondurant was 28th. Dylan Vines (42nd), Caden Kirksey (53rd), Tyler Long (69th), Austin Bolin (80th) and Gabriel Fernandez-Serrano (82nd) rounded out the Pinto finishers.

South Callaway at Challenge

The South Callaway Bulldogs finished 11th on Saturday in the Class 2 division of the Capital City Cross Country Challenge at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

South Callaway totaled 272 points.

Austin Meyer was 16th to lead South Callaway, finishing in 18:20.72. Daniel McDonald (31st), Austin Clubb (70th), Nathanael Shuler (77th), Nick Rodriguez (103rd), Gabe Williamson (105th) and Nicholas Garrett (107) rounded out the Bulldog finishers.

Three Lady Bulldogs ran Saturday.

Elizabeth Luebbert was 23rd in 22:48.98. Kallie Guthrie was 50th and Ellie Dunnavant was 63rd.
