Your Opinion: Obama's egregious apology tour

Dear Editor:

This letter is regarding Obama's recent tour to Japan and most egregious yet of his apology tours.

The following are excerpts taken from Wikipedia. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_crimes)

"R. J. Rummel, a professor of political science at the University of Hawaii, estimates that between 1937 and 1945, the Japanese military murdered from nearly 3 to over 10 million people, most likely 6 million Chinese, Koreans, Malaysians, Indonesians, Filipinos and Indochinese, among others, including Western prisoners of war." ("After March 20, 1943, the Japanese Navy was under orders to execute all prisoners taken at sea.")

"The Japanese military during the 1930s and 1940s is often compared to the military of Nazi Germany during 193345 because of the sheer scale of suffering." "Most Americans think of WW2 in Asia as having begun with Pearl Harbor, the British with the fall of Singapore, and so forth. The Chinese would correct this by identifying the Marco Polo Bridge incident as the start, or the Japanese seizure of Manchuria earlier. It really began in 1895 with Japan's assassination of Korea's Queen Min, and invasion of Korea, resulting in its absorption into Japan, followed quickly by Japan's seizure of southern Manchuria, etc. establishing that Japan was at war from 18951945. Therefore, Rummel's estimate of 6-million to 10-million dead between 1937 (the Rape of Nanjing*) and 1945, may be roughly corollary to the time-frame of the Nazi Holocaust, but it falls far short of the actual numbers killed by the Japanese war machine." (*for 6 weeks starting 12/13/1937, Japan murdered between 200,000 and 300,000 Chinese).

To clearly understand the brutality of the Japanese Imperial army, one should read about the 60-mile Bataan death march in the Philippines started 4/9/1942 which was so horrible it was considered a war crime. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bataan_Death_March)

President Truman was right! Yes, to sacrifice 140,000 is horrible, but he ended a war during which over 60 million people died including 407,000 U.S. servicemen by immediately defeating one of the most atrocious regimes in world history! These are the hard decisions a president must make if America and the world are to be free! If America is to survive we must again have a president with the courage of Harry Truman not spineless apologists like Obama!
