Your Opinion: Approve sales tax extension

Dear Editor:

My husband and I moved to Jefferson City 26 years ago and we have seen much growth and change since that time. One of the bright spots has been the improvements that have been made possible by the voters continuing to endorse the city's half-cent capital improvement sales tax.

When you look at projects like Highway 179 and Mission Drive, the Lafayette improvements and the East McCarty streetscape, the modern fire and police equipment, and various overlay and intersection projects, you can see exactly where these tax dollars have been spent. In my opinion they have been spent wisely.

We will once again be asked to extend this tax for another five years on Aug. 2, and I am encouraging my friends and neighbors to vote yes.

If we do not continually maintain and upgrade our capital assets, they will gradually decline and we will be faced with huge costs to fix them.

Please vote yes on the Jefferson City half-cent capital improvement sales tax on August 2.
