JC Council hires new director of finance/IT

Jefferson City has hired its new director of finance and information technology.

At the Jefferson City Council meeting Tuesday, City Administrator Steve Crowell introduced and recommended the hire of Margie Mueller, current chief financial officer for the Missouri Department of Conservation, as the new director of finance and IT.

Crowell said Mueller has extensive experience in management, as well as experience working with policy boards. Crowell said Mueller has a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting from Columbia College and is a certified accountant.

After no discussion or questions, the council unanimously approved her appointment. Mueller will start March 1 and earn a salary of $105,000.

Mueller, a lifelong Jefferson City resident, said she's thrilled for the opportunity and excited to start. She said her background as a chief financial officer has provided her with experience managing IT staff as well.

Jefferson City has been searching for a new director since former director Bill Betts announced his resignation in September, though it wasn't effective until Nov. 30. He has since started his new position as the chief technology officer at Public School Retirement System.

After a nationwide search, the city received 39 applicants for the position, and six were brought in for interviews in December.
