BizBeat: Capital Mall losing two retailers

Just a week after Kirlin's Hallmark announced plans to close its Capital Mall store after 37 years in business there, two more stores have confirmed they will be leaving Jefferson City's largest retail hub.

Pro Image Sports, a national chain store offering a wide selection of licensed sports apparel, announced on its local store's Facebook page it will leave the Jefferson City market next month.

Store Manager Cameron Crouse, one of five current employees, said he was told the store's ownership company simply opted not to renew the lease. He said he was somewhat surprised because the store had been performing well.

"Getting the Ross and the Rue21 out here started bringing in some new business, so we were actually doing pretty well," he said.

The store's last day in business will be Feb. 11, he said.

Pro Image Sports discounted all inventory in the Capital Mall store by 30 percent on Friday.

Before Pro Image closes up shop, American Eagle will empty its store across the way on Jan. 24, Store Manager Morgan Tellman confirmed.

A corporate representative of American Eagle, another national chain selling women's and men's fashion, did not return a call requesting further information.
