Sheryl Crow donates $21,600 to Kennett teachers

KENNETT, Mo. (AP) - Musician Sheryl Crow has surprised teachers at her former southeast Missouri high school with a $21,600 donation.

The nine-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter is "adopting" all the teachers at Kennett High School through AdoptAClassroom.org with a $600 donation each for classroom supplies. The Southeast Missourian (http://bit.ly/1KFCvGS) reports that she made the announcement during an all-school assembly featured on the "Today" show's "Show Heart Today" series Monday.

Farmers Insurance provided the financial backing as part of its Thank America's Teachers program.

Crow once was a teacher in St. Louis. She says she knows firsthand the work involved as well as the effect teachers have on "the lives and futures of their students."
