4 treated for accident injuries

Four Mid-Missourians were treated for injuries they received in two separate traffic accidents Friday and early Saturday.

• Three of the injuries occurred in a four-vehicle wreck on U.S. 63, 180 feet south of the intersection with Missouri 133 at the north end of Westphalia.

Dennis K. Dittman, 62, of Bland, was treated and released from University Hospital in Columbia.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said Dittman was northbound on U.S. 63 when his 1995 Chevrolet S10 crossed the centerline and hit the rear of a southbound 2001 Kenworth box truck, driven by David S. Gipperich, 41, of St. James.

As the S10 began to overturn, it hit the back end of a northbound 2010 GMC Terrain driven by Kylie F. Reynolds, 23, of Belle.

Dittman's vehicle then hit a northbound 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by Allison R. Wankum, 17, of Westphalia.

The S10 then landed on its side.

Reynolds and Haven Vandergriff, an infant also from Belle, were treated and released from St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City.

Wankum and Gipperich were not reported as injured.

Troopers didn't know if Dittman was using his seat belt, but everyone else was protected.

The S10 was totaled, the GMC Terrain and Chevy Monte Carlo had extensive damage and the box truck had minor damage.

The accident happened at 3:25 p.m. Friday.

• Jesse R. Campbell, 24, of New Bloomfield, was treated and released Saturday from University Hospital in Columbia, after he was hurt in a one-vehicle wreck at 12:01 a.m.

The Patrol said he fell asleep while driving south on Callaway County Road 207, and his 1996 Mercedes S-Class ran off the left side of the road and hit a bridge abutment.

The accident happened less than a mile north of Route F.

Campbell was using his seat belt.
