Jays shut out Hickman in tennis

The Jefferson City tennis team defeated district foe Hickman 9-0 on Thursday at Washington Park.

In doubles, Joey Mendez and Josh Morris won 8-3, Karsten McMillan and Jackson Meyer won 8-4, and Josh Jay and Kyle Highfill won 8-5.

In singles play, Mendez won 6-2, 6-2; McMillan won 6-2, 7-5; Morris won 6-0, 6-2; Meyer won 6-0, 6-2; Joe Willoh won 6-2, 6-4; and Jarrod Henry won 6-3, 6-7, 10-8.

The Jays (7-8) play today at the Edwardsville (Ill.) Invitational.

The Jays JV also won Thursday, beating Father Tolton’s varsity 8-1. Doubles winners were Kyle Yungbluth and Josh Sabala, Alex Weaver and Jimmy Chen 8-0, and Hunter Swanigan and Brad Mealey. Singles winners were Sabala, Weaver, Chen, Swanigan and Mealy.
