Washburn downs Lincoln

The Washburn Ichabods scored in every inning but one Sunday, rolling to a 20-4 win against Lincoln in a game shortened to eight innings due to the run rule.

The Ichabods got three in the first, one in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to make it 7-0 before the Blue Tigers ever got on the board.

Lincoln’s first run came in the bottom of the fifth when Alex Ludwick’s sacrifice fly scored Mason Price.

Washburn then got three more in both the sixth and seventh innings to make it 13-1.

Lincoln stayed alive momentarily by getting three runs in the seventh — on an RBI double by Jeffery Jackson, an RBI single by Jake Walker and a Washburn error — but the Ichabods ended it early thanks to a seven-run eighth inning.

Washburn got seven home runs in the contest from six different players. The Ichabods (29-13 overall, 24-8 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) outhit the Blue Tigers (1-41, 0-32) by a 17-10 margin.

Dillon Walker had two hits and one RBI to lead the Lincoln offense, while Wyatt Ahart went 2-for-2. Jake Walker and Jackson had one hit and one RBI apiece.

Caleb Thomas (0-1) pitched the first five innings while taking the loss. He allowed seven earned runs on seven hits, walking five and striking out five.

Tyler Roberts, Kyler Lundgrin, Riley Crews and Jameson Mahan also pitched, with none of them lasting more than an inning.

Lincoln will close out the home portion of its schedule with a single conference game against Lindenwood starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
