Missouri softball splits first two with Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Missouri Tigers scored multiple runs in three innings Saturday to defeat Kentucky 9-2.

Missouri scored twice in the second, three times in the fourth and two more in the fifth to account for seven of its nine runs.

Amanda Sanchez and Kolby Romaine had home runs for the Tigers, who finished with nine hits.

Paige Lowary went the distance to get the win in the circle. She allowed one earned run on nine hits and three walks while striking out six.

On Friday, Missouri’s comeback attempt from a 7-1 deficit was halted as Kentucky beat the Tigers 7-6.

Missouri trailed 7-1 after two innings before scoring two in the third and three in the fourth to make it a one-run game.

The Tigers failed to reach base in the final three innings, ending their rally.

Kentucky (36-8, 12-4) answered Missouri’s single run in the first inning in a big way, plating six in the bottom half.

The Wildcats added a run in the second inning to lead 7-1.

Regan Nash scored on Sami Fagan’s fielder’s choice in the third. Fagan and Emily Crane later completed a double steal, scoring Crane to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Crane doubled to drive in two runs in the fourth and scored on the play thanks to an error, cutting Kentucky’s lead to 7-6.

Emily Crane finished with two hits, two RBI and three runs for the Tigers. Sami Fagan and Chloe Rathburn each had an RBI.

Tori Finucane (0-2) took the loss for Missouri, allowing five runs on five hits in one-third of an inning. Danielle Baumgartner allowed two runs on three hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings. Lowary struck out four in three perfect innings in the circle.

Missouri (29-11, 6-8) and Kentucky (36-9, 12-5) will wrap up their series today at 11 a.m. (ESPNU-TV).
