Thomas Jefferson fourth at volleyball invitational

Jefferson City's Thomas Jefferson eighth-grade volleyball team took fourth in Saturday's Capital City Invitational at Fleming Fieldhouse.

The Lady Patriots split with California (25-23, 21-25) before beating Gentry (25-23, 25-18), the Lewis and Clark B team (25-11, 25-17) and Boonville (25-22, 25-18).

In the semifinals, Troy topped Thomas Jefferson 25-15, 25-21. California then won the third-place match 19-25, 25-23, 25-18.

Abigayle LaGore had 19 aces, 24 kills, six blocks and 13 digs in the event for Thomas Jefferson. Madeline Showers added four kills, 27 assists, 13 digs and 20 aces, Ella Wang had 10 kills and four blocks and Lauren Hackman had 13 digs.

The Lady Patriots are now 15-3-1 and play Monday at Waynesville.
