Flood warning continues along Missouri River

The National Weather Service reports a flood warning continues today along the Missouri River at Jefferson City, Chamois, Gasconade, Hermann, Washington and St. Charles.

The Missouri River reached the 23-foot flood stage Tuesday in Jefferson City.

The current forecast has the river staying at that level through this morning, and then it's expected to slowly begin to fall and continue falling throughout the week. However, additional rainfall today could alter the forecasts. (See links below for updates.)

Heavy rains last week upstream and in the Mid-Missouri area this past weekend caused the river to rise from 14 feet Sunday morning.

The forecast for the river in Chamois still has the river going to nearly 22 feet by early afternoon today, which is 5 feet above the 17-foot flood stage.

The Missouri River at Gasconade was at 25.3 feet on Tuesday afternoon and is forecast to rise near 27.8 feet by this evening, then begin falling.

At Hermann where flood stage is 21 feet, the stage was 22.8 feet Tuesday night and is expected to rise to near 24.6 feet by this evening. The river at Hermann is predicted to fall below flood stage Sunday morning.

No flooding is forecast on the Moreau and Osage rivers in the area.
