Helias girls soccer beats Battle

COLUMBIA - The Helias Lady Crusaders scored twice in the first half Monday in a 2-1 victory against the Battle Spartans.

Sydnee Kliethermes and Maddie Lammers scored for the Lady Crusaders. Morgan Rundle assisted on Kliethermes' goal, while Lammers' score came on a free kick.

Battle's goal came with five minutes left in the contest on a penalty kick.

Helias (3-2) will play Wednesday in St. Louis against St. Joseph Academy, the defending Class 3 state champion.

The JV game will start at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity contest around 5:45 p.m.

Helias won Monday's JV game 9-0. Lauren Alexander had four goals and an assist to lead Helias. Maggie Kehoe added two goals, while Sarah Pierle, Torey Mueller and Kelsey Schenewerk also scored. Also picking up one assist each were Pierle, Mueller, Schenewerk, Megan Kerr and Hannah Crane.

Olivia Wolken and Ashley Hart were in goal in the shutout.
