Lake area man killed in wreck

One Lake Ozark resident died and three were injured in a two-vehicle wreck in Camden County early Sunday morning.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said John L. McGowin, 53, died after being taken to Lake Regional Hospital.

McGowin was driving westbound on Route HH, about .2 miles west of Duckhead Road at about 1:20 a.m. when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck an eastbound vehicle driven by Amelia C. Johnson, 24.

The patrol said McGowin was not wearing a seat belt, but that everyone in the other car was wearing a seat belt.

Johnson and her passengers, Trenton J. Mann, 30, and Jesse D. Smith, 21, were all taken to Lake Regional Hospital with moderate injuries.

Lohman resident Brandi M. Basnett, 39, was taken to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries after a one-vehicle wreck Saturday night in Cole County.

The patrol said she was westbound a few hundred yards east of East Miller Road when her vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The wreck occurred about 9:30 p.m.

She was wearing a seat belt.

Jefferson City resident Kayla K. Schulte, 20, was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with minor injuries after a one-vehicle wreck in Cole County Saturday afternoon.

The patrol said she was westbound on Lake Road, about 22 feet west of Pleasant View Drive when her vehicle slid off the right side of the road, struck a fence and a tree.

She was not wearing a seat belt.

The wreck occurred about 3:55 p.m.
