Kircher's homer helps Lincoln split softball twinbill

The Lincoln softball team split a doubleheader with Central Oklahoma on Saturday, winning the first 7-5 thanks to some late dramatics from Sam Kircher before losing 15-0 in the second.

In the opener, the Blue Tigers allowed two runs on three hits in the top of the first but responded with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the inning. Spencer Silva doubled in Allyson Corry and Sam Kircher, while Avery Myers scored on a wild pitch. Madison Gooden then singled in Silva before scoring on a Jessica Wolken single.

Lincoln was held scoreless during the next four innings while Central Oklahoma put up two runs in the second and one run in the fourth to tie the game at five.

The Blue Tigers' scoring drought ended abruptly in the sixth when Kirchner smacked a two-run home run, driving in Corry to break the tie.

It was Lincoln's first Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association win of the year, and Lincoln's 10 hits were the most the Blue Tigers have had in a game this season. Eight different Lincoln players notched hits.

Macie Kinsey earned the complete-game win for the Blue Tigers, allowing 13 hits and five runs with three strikeouts and a walk.

That was the last scoring the Blue Tigers would do on the day.

The Bronchos (16-6, 5-1 MIAA) went off for 15 runs on 16 hits in the second game, scoring in four of the game's five innings.

Lincoln failed to record a hit off Jessi Walker, who walked two. It was Lincoln's second game this year without a hit, as Emporia State no-hit the Blue Tigers on March 7.

Madison Ragar allowed six runs on six hits in 21/3 innings to take the loss. Kinsey allowed five runs on four hits in 11/3 innings, while Lauren Stamp gave up four runs on six hits in 11/3 innings.

The Blue Tigers (1-14, 1-5 MIAA) host Northeastern State at 1 p.m. today in another MIAA doubleheader.
