Meadville bests Winston 50-46 for Class 1 boys title

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Cade Shiflett scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Meadville past Winston 50-46 in the Class 1 boys championship Saturday.

The win capped Meadville's 32-0 season and gave the school its first-ever title after finishing second last season. It didn't come easily, though, despite the Eagles taking the lead for good on Shiflett's layup with 5:46 left in the opening half that made it 8-7.

After watching Winston's Craig Lewis hit a 3-pointer with 4:48 remaining to narrow the Redbirds' deficit to 34-33, the Eagles answered with a 12-4 run - including 10 free throws - to lead by nine points with 57 seconds left. Meadville converted 22 of its 24 free throw attempts for the game and scored 16 of its final 18 points from the line.

Kristchon Hisel led Winston (29-3) with 13 points, while Jordan Leonard scored 12 and Lewis added 11.
