Missouri State University Board of Governors vacancy filled

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Kansas City financial adviser has been appointed to the Missouri State University Board of Governors by Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.

Nixon on Tuesday announced his appointment of Republican Gregory Spears of Greenwood. Spears is managing director and Kansas market manager for Wells Fargo Advisors in Kansas City.

Spears graduated from Missouri State University with a finance degree. Spears' appointment still must be confirmed by the Missouri Senate. If confirmed, his term is set to end in January 2019.

Spears fills a vacancy left by Democrat Stephen Bough. Bough was sworn in as U.S. district court judge for the state's western district in December 2014 after his appointment by President Barack Obama earlier that year.

The university Board of Governors is responsible for adopting rules and regulations for the school.
