Lincoln hoops to host Missouri Western

The Lincoln women will look to start a winning streak while the Lincoln men want to stop a losing skid tonight as the Blue Tigers host Missouri Western in a Mid America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) basketball doubleheader at Jason Gym.

The Lincoln women are coming off a 70-61 victory at home Saturday against Southwest Baptist. Kelsey Williams totaled 28 points for the Blue Tigers in the victory, including 13 on free throws. Williams (10.8 ppg) is one of three Blue Tigers to average in double figures, along with Hunter Yoakum and Kate Frazier (both 11.8).

LaQuinta Jefferson of Missouri Western tops the MIAA in scoring at 21.2 points per game.

The game between Lincoln (7-9 overall, 2-8 MIAA) and Missouri Western (8-8. 3-7) is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start

Missouri Western holds a 26-3 lead in the series against Lincoln, but the Blue Tigers have three of the last four games at Jason Gym. That includes a 56-55 victory last season.

The Lincoln men have dropped nine straight games heading into a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Griffions.

Lincoln (4-15, 1-9), which fell 69-50 on Saturday to Southwest Baptist, is led in scoring by Joshua Buie at 16.6 points per game. Victor Scott is next at 10.8, while Malcolm McDowell (8.6) has reached double-figures in three of his last four games.

Cortez Colbert averages 14.8 points per game to lead the Griffons (8-9, 4-4).

Missouri Western leads the all-time series 29-5. The last wins for the Blue Tigers against the Griffons came when Lincoln swept two games in the 2011-12 season.

This is the middle of a three-game homestand for the Lincoln men and women. They will host Northwest Missouri State on Saturday afternoon.
